Selecting Keywords And Keyword Phrases

What is a relevant keyword phrase?
A relevant keyword is a word or phrase that singularly describes, or as closely describes, the topic of your web page as possible. Put another way, someone should be able to look at your keyword phrase and know what your web page is about.

Its been common knowledge, in the webmasters world, for years that selecting the most relevant keywords is one of, if not the most, important steps in preparing you web site for search engines. After all, it's the only way for people to find us on the Internet.

We all know what a search engine is and how to use them, but do we actually know how they work? Knowing what a search engine does and how it works will better show the importance of keywords.

Search engines have robots that continuously crawl the Internet indexing new web pages and re indexing (updating) older pages. The first thing that a robot does, in relation to keywords when it visits your site, is read your robots.txt file for permission to crawl your site. Once the bot has permission it index's (archives) the title of your page, the keyword and description meta tags and the header tags in your content. The search engine uses this information to determine what search terms apply and are most relevant to your web page.

A web site is merely a group of web pages and each web page in your web site should have it's own set of unique keywords. Be sure to include, if at all possible, your most relevant keyword phrase in the title of each page and in the anchor text of links to that page. This will work wonders in getting your page listed and also ranking.

Now that we know what a keyword is and how search engines use them we next need to know how to select the relevant keywords for our web page. The best way to do that would be to select a keyword as an example. Lets say that you have a web page about cameras, the obvious word for that page would be "camera". The problem here is that the word "camera" is to broad of a keyword. so you have to get more specific.

  • If you type the word camera into a search engine it returns 443,000,000 pages with the word camera in their content.
  • But, if we type in the keyword phrase "digital camera" the results drop to 207,000,000. That has already cut the competition in half.
  • So we refine the keyword phrase even more and type in the words "cheap digital camera" and the results drop even more to 9,150,000.
  • Next, we experiment a little, and try a different phrase "affordable digital camera" and the results are even better with 1,980,000.
So, we keep refining, tweaking and experimenting until we get the best keyword phrase for our web site.

It's always best to use a keyword phrase rather than a single keyword to describe your web site. Think about it. A phrase of two or three words will describe the content of your web page much more accurately than a single word.

Refining your keywords is fundamental to creating your web site, but, its only one step in the quest for a top ranking. Lets face it, their's always going to be other digital camera web sites.

Content Creation - Got 10 Thumbs? You Can Still Create Information Products at the Speed of Sound

When most people think about creating information products on a computer they automatically picture a keyboard. For a few gifted individuals, a keyboard is simply an extension of their hands, with their fingers acting as an information faucet pouring out words naturally and effortlessly. But for most people those 104 keys represent 104 opportunities to foul up.

The average speaking rate is an astounding 150 to 200 words per minute.

A hunt-and-peck artist blasts out about 27 words per minute. Even a wizard typist probably averages only 80 to 90 words per minute. So, even if you are a great typist you can build your Internet business in less time by creating information products 2-3 times faster with your voice instead of your flying fingers.

Voice-activated software has greatly improved over the past few years with more product choices and much greater accuracy. Although you must spend a few minutes training the software to recognize your voice and endure a brief slowdown while you learn the program commands, the result is well worth the time spent. Not only is speaking faster, but the software spells perfectly. You can use voice-activated software at your desk using your computer microphone or by speaking into a digital recorder and uploading the file for your program to transcribe.

Not only is speaking faster, but the software spells perfectly.

The second solution for keyboard woes is to hire a transcription service. Formerly reserved for medical records, transcription is now readily available for as little as a penny a word. Turnaround time is three to seven days. This means that digital recordings of teaching sessions, speeches, teleseminars, and personal interviews can be transcribed and converted into articles, blog posts, e-books, e-guides and e-courses for more content creation at the speed of sound.

And now I'd like to invite you to enroll in my free 30-lesson ecourse, "How to Support Your Family Using One Non-fiction Book." Even if your book is still in the future, you can gain great insight into how to reformat and market the information you already have. Just go to RoseyDowFreeStuff.com and sign up.

Outsourcing Programming Work to a Freelancer

If your company is limited to just a few employees, or if your specialist area is design and graphics, you may find it hard when commissioned to build a complete web solution to meet the demands of your client. Programming work can be time consuming, and needs to be handled by a specialist in the field if you want an efficient, robust and secure solution. Especially in the field of e-commerce, you simply cannot afford to have your reputation damaged when someone finds security holes all over a client's site. If you are unsure of your abilities when it comes to programming, outsourcing the work to someone who knows what he's doing can be the best way forward.

Let's say you have been working on a complete redesign for a client and that they also want the functionality changing. Having looked at the code, it's such a mess that you realise it would take you twice the allotted time scale just to figure out how it works and hence it will need rewriting from scratch. You start work on the look and feel of the site and design some new graphics since this is your strong point, and you try not to think about the back-end, this can come later. The client is happy with your work so far and is looking forward to the end result.

So, you have the design completed, your front-end XHTML/CSS is all in place, but the website you are working on still needs a shopping cart, content management facilities and user authentication implementing and you only have 3 days left! What do you do in this situation? Enter the freelancer.

Hiring a freelance programmer can significantly ease the burden when tackling difficult or large projects. You can pick and choose the areas that either you don't want to work on or don't have the time for or that you are simply unable to do yourself, and let somebody else worry about them. Not only does this free up your time to work on other aspects of a project, but it can even save you money.

A lot of freelancers will have a library of well tested programming code to draw from that means they can complete new projects very quickly, enabling them to charge less for it, and ensuring you a fast turnaround time while still getting top quality, optimized and secure code. Another great advantage to the reusable code scenario is that the code will often be very well organized making it much easier if the client comes back for something changing to avoid rewriting it all over again.

In summary, hiring a freelance programmer can save you time, money and stress, making your working life easier without the added burden of extra employees. They can deal with the areas that you can't or can help to bridge the gap between small and large projects in that period when you have too much work for your staff, but not enough to hire more.

Web Development & Design Techniques

Today, internet has become a very important media in business world. According to a statistics, almost 70% of the the total business in the world is running over internet. A natural question arises that how does people running their millionaire business over internet? The answer lies with web site design and web site development, designing and search engine optimization. I'll discuss Search engine Optimization in my next article. Lets discuss about Website Design and Development.

Web Site Development

Most of you must be familiar with web site design and web site development and must be thinking that is their any issue discussing about it. Yes. All of us who works on internet has now or later must have developed one site or at least seen one. There are many website development company who develops site for others. What do you notice when you look at a website. Its beauty, images, flashes etc. Most of us go well impressed by such sites when we look at it. But that is not enough for a site to be just marvelous. There are some thing we must keep in mind before we develop and design a web site.

Do not use too much images and flashes.

Images and Flashes are no doubt make your site more visible and attractive but those are not good for search engines. Hence avoid using images and flashes as much as you think its okay for your site unless you are going to have a strong outer promotion for your site, in absence of which your site traffic basically depends on search engines.

Good Content

Use good content in your site and relative to what you are selling. Users and spiders like those sites which provide useful contents for visitors. It will be an added advantage if you'll keep updating your site's content on some regular basis. But keep in mind that you don't provide irrelevant content, i.e. something your are not dealing with. It can irritate your visitors.

Make a user friendly site

Users like a easy navigation on site. They don't want to keep moving and moving all through the site and not getting for which they have visited your site. So, keep your site template simple and easy for novice users. Connect your pages through simple links. Don't let user play hide and seek on your site.

Use ALT tags for images

Use alt tags for the images your are keeping on your site. It helps with the search engines. Since the spiders can't see those image they read those ALT tags, so you may use your keywords in your ALT tags. But don't over do it because some search engines may consider it as spam.

Title, and Meta Tags

Use descriptive titles but make it limited to 50-60 characters. Write a description of about two to three lines specifying details about the particular page. Do not stuff it with keywords. In keyword meta tag, write as much keywords as much you want. Generally most of the search engines do not read keyword meta tags including Google, but still some do go through them like Yahoo. Keep you keywords up to 250 characters. Make different title and meta tags for each page rather than copying the same for each page.

Why You Need Great Content For Your Websites?

If you ask website owners the one thing they hate doing, they will all tell you it is creating content. The problem is, though, that you have to do this to be successful on the Internet. You always need to be adding something new to your website or writing content to submit to other websites. Writing content is essential to your success on the Internet.

Not everyone knows this yet, though. They believe the content they already have on their website is good enough. This is wrong. There are three reasons you should be creating new content as much as you can. Getting more visitors, making your visitors happy and search engine optimization.

Getting more visitors

Creating new content and sending them to blogs and directories are the best way to get new visitors to your website. When someone reads a great article written by you on someone`s blog or in an article directory, they will want more and will visit your website.

Making your visitors happy

Constantly updated content is what people look for on the Internet. If they come to your website and everything is from 1996, are they going to continue coming to your website? No! You want to please your visitors by adding up to date and interesting content as much as you can.

Search engine optimization

Search engines look for new, updated content on your website when determining it`s search engine rank. A site with brand new content that is unique will outrank an old site that has never updated their information.

Creating new, updated content is essential for making your website successful!

How to Churn Out Content For Your Ezine the Easy and Lazy Way

Being successful with an idea to create a profitable ezine not only comes with a good design, it needs great content to keep the readers coming back again and again. The ezine does not instantly produce high traffic, you will need to market a profitable ezine by letting the public know about the great content it offers them. Content is the key when trying to publish a profitable ezine but the most difficult task of all. It takes up a lot of time if you are the one working on most of the content yourself.

To create a profitable ezine with good content you can decide to write all the articles yourself or you can find a good writer who will charge you a reasonable rate. The content written for you needs to be done in such a way that you are able to put your name on the content as you wrote it yourself. This will need the help of a ghostwriter. You might want to start out with a few items of content you write yourself and then pass it along to the professional to continue.

The ideas for the content need to be original and changed often to keep them fresh for the reader. Try using what is making the news or what the celebrities are doing special this season. Take a good news story and expand it so it pertains to the every day life of the reader. This makes for good reading content always and it never fails!

Important Role of Web Content in Generating Web Site Traffic

Website content is what makes it a success. Without good and unique content no ordinary website can gain popularity. The effort and time spent on developing a content that is both unique and informative will never go waste. In other words, content should do justification to the website by generating traffic to that website. It will start producing excellent results in the long run by way of real visitors to your site. There are some key points to keep in your mind while developing content for a website.

Content with keywords

Content should be developed around a set of keywords. As you know, people find a website by searching with keywords provided in the search box of search engines. Millions of web pages are matched against these keywords and the most relevant web pages are shown as the result. To satisfy the strict requirements of search engines, you must have content built on keywords that are normally used to search your kind of website. Be creative on your content development by using keywords in a most efficient way without hindering the readability.

Informative Content

If a new visitor finds your content informative, there is a great chance to bring him or her back again to your website. People who visit a new site are looking for something that can improve his or her existing idea about something related with your content. The average time spent by a new visitor in a website will be normally around 10 seconds. It is the responsibility of your content to retain those visitors within this short span of time. Ensure that the content you host in your web pages are most authentic and reliable. Read the developed content over and over to ensure that you are providing the most up-to-date information to your readers. A good content management system should be in place to manage content that appears in different parts of your web pages. This way you will have a better control on your content and it will be easy for the web master to update the content to include the latest information.

Navigation

Navigation to different pages of your web sites should be easy. Make the menus most interactive and meaningful. Ensure that nothing obstructs a new visitor from visiting different areas of your web site.

Difference Between Web Development & Web Design

When we are talking about advertisement and media, web designer and web developer are integral part of it. But it's very important that you know exactly what the two terms are dealing with. When we are talking about web design, it's the overall look of the site seen by the visitors. When we are talking of web development, it's all about the functionalities of the site. Here we will discuss the basic difference between the two.

Starting with the basic a simple website will be comprised of things as their look & feel, way of presentation, content composition of the site, Functionalities incorporated and most important usability of the site. Going down further into detailed analysis of following things we will see how different these things are from each other.

Web site look & feel:

It deals with mainly the template design, graphics or flash used, color scheme of the site, navigation structure and overall integration of content design and navigation.

Style of presentation:

Style of presentation deals with the way you are interaction with your visitors. Your visitors are really getting the stuff they are looking? Are you visitors very much comfortable with your site navigation and content.

Content composition:

It basically deals with the relevant content, information, services & products present on the site as per the page name or title of the site.

Functionality of the site:

Functionality deals with the interactive features provided on the site for visitors, such as search option, user registration or forums.

Usability:

Usability means user friendliness of the site. The things countable can be easy navigation, usefulness and easy interaction. How web design and Web development are related:

Now the truth lies here that web design and development are two different things but to make a site live they need to be integrated perfectly. Both design team and development team has to work in conjugation to make a site hot & happening. And to pass the testing phase both teams has to make things happen.

So taking care of site designing part web designers has to take care of graphic design in which they need to be proficient. Implementing flash, animation, user-friendly navigation, content integration & maintaining overall usability of the site is job of a professional web designer.

Web development programmers are concerned with the functionality incorporated into the site. Making HTML pages and integrating the programs, adding functionality, making site more usable is the job of web developers.

Since both web design and web development needs to be integrated to make a site perfect. It's a job of both developers and designers to make everything perfect.

So for you all you need a professional web design development company to make your site best.

Web Content Management Trends Leading The Way For Enterprise Metadata Management

Traditionally many businesses neglected the development of a complete and efficient metadata repository, because they did not realize the business benefit it can yield. It has clearly been an issue, related to the culture of the Business: how management appreciates the value of information and its use in decision making. Metadata in the form of data definition language (DDL) have been developed in RDBMS systems. However, these metadata have been limited to the structure of physical databases. They were not enriched with the addition of:

  • definitions of business terms and acronyms
  • explanations on the information structure
  • business rules on entity types, entity type attributes or combinations of entities types.
In certain cases the documentation on the Enterprise information architecture has been kept in fragmented documents, stored in unlinked repositories or files. Furthermore, in some cases the documentation on certain complex information structures, has been very limited. Moreover, regarding unstructured data (like e-mail, documents etc), the ability to efficiently retrieve information on a specific topic, is often impeded by the lack of efficient content structure and/or descriptive metadata (e.g. semantic tags). On the Internet, the battle to attract attention has led to increased efforts to structure content in a way that can be highly accessible and usable. The ability to attract visitors is increasingly determined by the search engines which mediate between content and Users. A search engine is not able to ‘understand’ the topics covered by a web page unless it is assisted by metadata and rich text content. Rich and carefully written metadata like meta description and keywords sections in HTML pages, are facilitating the machine to understand and promote the content more efficiently. The central position of metadata on the Internet, stored in various forms like HTML meta tags, RSS / Atom feeds or sitemaps (e.g. Google sitemaps), is only going to be further strengthening and evolving to more efficient forms. The semantic web, a web of metadata, is under rapid development, aiming to optimize the accessibility and usability of existing Internet content. New ways to ‘explain’ the content to the search engines are currently under evolution. New methods to describe content topics and their relationship, have been proposed (e.g. XML Topic Maps - XTM). A new breed of feed management and promotion web services (e.g. feedburner.com, feedvalidator.org), are aiming to early-on capture a significant portion of the emerging feed management market, in order to achieve critical mass that will lead them to further development. The same principles and techniques can be used to manage and efficiently exploit intranet content. Metadata are needed to describe the structure of Enterprise information and facilitate its search and retrieval. Furthermore, Social networks, under rapid growth on the Internet, can also be applied in large Enterprises in order to exchange experience and tacit knowledge among professionals which are not acquainted and even work in different geographic sites. The whole effort to better structure & explain information, with the efficient use of metadata, presents enormous potential and is expected to dramatically influence future information management developments on the Internet as well as on the Enterprise intranet world. Content Creation Paradigm Of A Successful Internet Marketer

What is the point of creating content for my internet business? It is just a waste of valuable time! I hate writing anyway, so I just won't do it!

Statements like the one above are heard everyday regarding content creation. Few realize just how important and monetizing content creation is. They limit the growth and development of their business because they refuse to include it as a crucial marketing strategy for their business.

But let me go on to say that content creation is one of the most rewarding and powerful marketing tactics out there if it is done right.

Content, is one of the most important assets of any online business. The more content you have, the more traffic you can potentially pull towards your site. How?

Well, let me explain that the initial purpose of the internet was to become an information medium that stored and transferred information. This is why the internet is still known today as the 'information highway'.

Information, is the one major thing that powers the entire internet world!

The search engines, as well, thrive off of fresh new content. As a matter of fact, Google was initially created as a means to look up educational and research information online. Google was created in order to supply educational content to us.

Therefore, in order to tap into the incredible lucrative resource of the internet, we, as internet marketers, must change our paradigm from a make money paradigm into a content creation paradigm.

If we become more focused on creating informative content, then the traffic and the income will begin to flow naturally. This is a law that governs the internet world. Just publish high quality content, and you will generate that magnetic traffic that every marketer desires.

There is a principle that I continue to abide by in my own internet business.

The principle is this.....

"Continuously sow content into the internet, reap the reward of endless traffic."

This is a principle that governs a large majority of my business strategy. Every day, I am making an attempt to add more content to my business by either:

1. Writing an article

2. Posting a blog entry

3. Posting to a forum

4. Posting a blog comment

5. Creating a free online video tutorial

6. Writing a viral report

7. Submitting a press release

Everyday, I am trying to do at least 2 of the 7 content building methods I mentioned above. And as a result, I have seen trackable improvements to my traffic and business every week.

Therefore, if you do not have a workable marketing strategy, I highly encourage you to focus on building content in order to market and build your business.

Just taking this one actionable step everyday can make you much more wealthier in the next 9 months.

What is Agile Software Development?

Agile software development is a framework utilized software development projects. It was born out of frustration within traditional project management activities. According to Wikipedia:

The modern definition of agile software development evolved in the mid 1990s as part of a reaction against "heavyweight" methods, as typified by a heavily regulated, regimented, micro-managed use of the waterfall model of development. The processes originating from this use of the waterfall model were seen as bureaucratic, slow, demeaning, and inconsistent with the ways that software engineers actually perform effective work.

The objective when implementing an agile methodology is to minimize risks in software development. Within all agile software development methodologies, there are common principles. The Agile Alliance lists the following principles in the Agile Manifesto:

* Customer satisfaction by rapid, continuous delivery of useful software

* Working software is delivered frequently (weeks rather than months)

* Working software is the principal measure of progress

* Even late changes in requirements are welcomed

* Close, daily, cooperation between business people and developers

* Face-to-face conversation is the best form of communication

* Projects are built around motivated individuals, who should be trusted

* Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design

* Simplicity

* Self-organizing teams

* Regular adaptation to changing circumstances

There are many disciplines that fall within the agile software development umbrella. Some well known development methodologies include Scrum, Crystal Clear, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), Adaptive Software Development, Feature Driven Development, and DSDM.

Agile Software Development Status

Agile Software Development is often contrasted to the most prevalent software development model: Waterfall. According to a study from ACM:

"It is both surprising and disappointing, then, that in a survey of almost 200 practitioners, accounting for several thousands of projects over the past five years, the dominant process model reported was the Waterfall, with more than a third claiming its use. This result raises a question: Do practicing professionals know the Waterfall when they see it? Perhaps they are confusing it with other process models. This seems unlikely, but so does its dominance. It's more likely that in many circumstances, doing the wrong thing is easier than doing the right thing--and this is not a recipe for success".

Web Content Strategy - 2 Best Practices For Approving Translated Content

Deciding to translate your site's content adds a whole new layer of time and complexity to your development project plan. It is very tempting to look for quick shortcuts as time lines shrink and launch day approaches. This is where having a clear, approved, well-defined process helps. Two important steps to add to your translated content development process are creating a master glossary and using internal people to review translated content,

The Master Glossary

Every business has certain words and phrases that are used over and over again in all kinds of copy. Product names, slogans, product categories, product attributes, etc. all need to be translated exactly the same way, every time, for every project - forever. The best way to make sure this happens is to identify these words and phrases ahead of time, have them translated by someone who knows your business, and document this translation. Now whenever you have a new translation job to be sent out, send this document along with instructions to always use the included translations. Consistency is the sign of a professional brand.

Translation Reviews

If you send your content out to external vendors for translation, this step is essential. Translation vendors hire contractors to do the work as it arises. There is no guaranty that the same person will be translating your content a month from now, or even all of the content in your current process. So the translators have no context of what your business is all about. They don't know what special industry terms and phrases mean and may not understand the meaning of the text they are translating. Through no fault of their own, I see translators making this kind of mistake all the time. It takes someone who understands both your business and the language to find these kinds of errors. Always have vendor translations reviewed by someone in your business, or at least close to your business, before posting them to the Web.

Website Development - To Keep Your Site Crisp and Fresh

Talking of Web Development does not always mean talking about the technical changes that take place in the website, there are a number of features that are grouped together to form the crux of website development. These include, web content development, server side coding and configuration, web designing as well as website marketing. All of these combine to form the comprehensive website development program.

Web development can differ from designing to developing a simple web page, to a sophisticated website application creation. It is one thing which is required in every website, be it a business site or a social networking portal. Web development business is generally a big business, and requires skilled and trained professionals to do the business. Ideally a web developer must have sufficient knowledge of a lot of things including graphic designing, content writing and proofreading. Many websites believe in hiring an in-house web developer as the web master of the firm, who will know about the good and bad things in a website. On the other hand, smaller organizations appoint website development companies outside the organization to conduct their web development program.

Web development processes have resulted in making these websites more competitive, smooth in functioning and creative in nature. The prime reason for website development is to ensure the smooth functioning of the website. To make sure that the website is friendly in its approach to its users and is perfectly supporting the prime purpose of the website.

The development process of a website is generally a continuous process. Some or the other changes aught to be made in the website, in order to make sure that the site is always updated. Latest technologies are utilized to bring about these changes in the website, so that there is never a loop hole in its functioning. The biggest problem that sites face with website development is the major capital investment that they demand. Website development methods are in one way the most expensive part of website creation, nevertheless they also comprise a major chunk of designing too. But considering the long term benefits these procedures provide, the investment is definitely worthwhile.

Content Development - Taking Your Website to Greater Heights

The importance of content is evident, more so these days when there are a number of similar sites espousing or promoting similar themes. It is the content that helps in differentiating among these similar websites. Content is the tool that adds value to a web page and helps it in surviving competition.

Content that is unique, fresh, informative and relevant adds life to a website. No amount of graphics, images, animation, designing and layout can replace the importance of the content. Content, properly written, is also an excellent search engine optimization tool if interspersed with proper keywords. Hence content not only adds value to a web page but also affects its ranking on the search engine. Search engines are always on the look out for content that is rich and different, along with gelling with the basic theme of the web page.

Good and proper content can bolster website promotion tremendously. Content writing and development is not just about writing one's thoughts on the Internet randomly. Instead online content should be organised and systematic in order to attract traffic and appear on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). The language should be flowing and easy to understand, and should have the ability to hold the reader's attention. At the same time, the underlying concept of online content is to advertise and promote the web page, hence the use of appropriate keywords. The content should also be able to aptly describe the product or service that the website is dealing in. It must make sure that the visitor is prompted to buy the products or service being offered.

In order to achieve all the above objectives, websites need to adopt a proper plan for content development. The most important part of this plan is to determine what all content needs to appear on the website. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that the content on different pages of a website must not get repetitive. Planning is also necessary for Website Content Development to ensure that the content does not get waylaid from the main theme of the website. Constant updation and additions to the content are also essential to provide a dynamic look to the content.

Content development is not as easy as it sounds. It requires a lot of innovation, planning and creativity. Incorrect and unplanned content can have negative and long term repercussions on the website's business and reputation.
